Wanda Diamond League Xiamen press conference – 16 days to go
Some of the star athletes of every 14 Diamond League disciplines was revealed. The 3rd edition of the Xiamen Meeting will be of the highest quality. The full entry list will be published 16th of April. The Meeting Director, Rune Stenersen, presented the 14 events.
100m men
The 2023 and 2024 Xiamen winner, Christian Colman USA, will be challenged by the 200m Olympic Champion, Letsile Tebogo from Botswana. The great XIE Xhenye will be a challenger.
200m women
Olympic Champion and 4 times World Champion, Shericka Jackson JAM.
400m men
Olympic- and World Champion, Kirani James GRN.
1000m women
Faith Kipyegon KEN, 3-time Olympic Champion, 4 times World Champion, she is the current World Record holder in both the 1500m and the Mile (1609m). In the 1000m she has the second fastes time in history. The World record on the 1000m is 2:28,98 from 1996.
5000m women
2 times Olympic Champion, 10 000m World Record holder, 5km road World Record holder, Beatrice Chebet KEN will face the 5000m World Record holder, 2 times World Champion, Gudaf Tesgay ETH.
100m hurdles women
The 2 times indoor World Champion and World Record holder in 60m hurdles, Devynne Charlton BAH, and talented WU Yanni CHN.
110 m hurdles men
Olympic Champion and 3 times World Champion, Grant Holloway USA. Also XU Zhuoyi and QIN Weibo CHN.
300m hurdles men
The World Record holder, Olympic Champion, 3 times World Champion in the 400m hurdles, Karsten Warholm NOR. Warholm will run the 300m hurdles in Xiamen. Xiamen will be the first Meeting hosting the event that was formally approved by World Athletics Counsil in March.
3000m steeplechase men
2 times Olympic- and World Champion, Soufiane El Bakkali MAR.
High Jump women
World Record holder, Olympic- and World Champion, Jaroslava Mahuchikh UKR.
Pole Vault men
Last year we experienced a World Record in Xiamen by Mondo Duplantis SWE with 6m24cm in the Pole Vault. Mondo claimed his second Olympic Gold Medal in Paris last year. Mondo will be back this year. All the top ranked pole vaulters will compete in Xiamen. Watch out for the Olympic finalist for China, HUANG Bokai.
Discus Throw women
The women’s Discus Throw will be another duel between the two top ranked in the world. FENG Bin CHN and Valarie Allman USA. In the Olympics last year Allman claimed the Gold and FENG the Silver.
Shot Put women
The great Chinese Champion GONG Lijiao, will meet all the top ranked athletes in the world. Last year GONG won the Xiamen competition. Gong has a impressive career, Olympic Champion, 2 times World Champion and 3 times Diamond League Final winner. The biggest challenger will be World number 1 ranked Chase Jackson USA.
Long Jump men
The Olympic finalist and Asian Champion, ZHANG Minqkun CHN and the Diamond League Final winner from 2024 Wayne Pinnock JAM.
